La Femme Infidèle (1969) 5/9

Another suspense classic from French director Claude Chabrol, this taut psychological thriller tells the tale of a contented, middle-class husband (Michel Bouquet) who suspects his seemingly faithful wife (Stephane Audran) of carrying on an affair. He soon becomes consumed with jealousy and hires a private investigator to ascertain his wife’s infidelity. When the detective confirms his worst fears, the husband embarks upon a series of events which test the boundaries of his marriage and the extent to which he will go to preserve his privileged lifestyle. Considered by many critics to be one of his best works, THE UNFAITHFUL WIFE showcases Chabrol’s signature exploration of the hypocrisies of bourgeois morality while cloaking the proceedings in an atmosphere of unbearable tension and suspense. La Femme infidèle opens with a soft focus family portrait, one which it will slowly proceed to demolish over the next 90 or so minutes. Three men, who look like winners in life, are in fact struggling with their own sufferings that they desperately strive to keep undisclosed – schizophrenia, sex addiction and infidelity. As revelation of their secrets exacerbates their sense of deprivation, the three friends are inevitably led to a shocking finale when they learn that growing pains are not just distant memories of their youth. Freelance photographer Hyun-woo, plastic surgeon Min-suk and financial specialist Jin-hyuk seem to have it all but when they start harboring secrets from one another, their lives and friendship take a turn for the worse. The film also features the late actress Jang Ja-yeon, who committed suicide this year. First it was reported that she died of depression and there were even reports saying that her manager stated she was murdered, well, that might be true… to some extent. It has now been exposed that the up and coming actress was beaten and forced to sleep with the Production Director (PD). Her manager is now revealing the gruesome first hand accounts of the suffering and assaults against her, despite her family not wanting this information to be leaked. Jang Ja Yun hand wrote documents listing her tragedies. Before her death, she asked her manager to expose the person responsible for her attacks. This part entails chopping a few trees down and exploring the newly created world, while building living quarters Apologies for the strong brightness of the video, I had recorded the video with low brightness and YouTube made it slightly brighter for me. Didn’t do too well on it really. -.-. All fixed for the next recording session I also apologise for the bad sound balancing. Annoyingly, Minecraft’s sound is very loud even when the volume’s turned down quite low. This persists up to about Part 6 or so. Please note that while there are some mods installed on my Minecraft, I will try not to use them as much as possible. I will obviously not use the TMI mod as that’s plain cheating.
